Microplastic-free

Microplastic is a huge source of environmental pollution. It is everywhere in our soil, rivers and seas. Every day, 30 billion microplastic particles pass below the Quaibrücke bridge in Zurich alone.

What is microplastic? According to the definition of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), microplastics are solid plastic particles that are insoluble in water and are 5 mm or less in size. Experts distinguish between primary microplastics that manufacturers deliberately add to products (plastic particles in peeling treatments) and secondary microplastics that are created when plastic breaks down, in other words when plastic packaging gradually decomposes or abrasion from car tyres and shoe soles occurs.

But solid plastics are not the only concern for our environment: liquid and soluble synthetic polymers in cosmetics are also a problem as these are, to a greater or lesser extent, difficult to break down.

Natural exfoliant granules
