PALM OIL-FREE PRODUCTS

Sadly, many cosmetic products contain palm oil. Unfortunately, natural cosmetic products and a few BIOKOSMA products are no exception. We do not use pure palm oil and palm kernel oil. However, we cannot yet dispense with derivatives based on palm kernel oil in every case. Raw materials based on palm oil (palm oil derivatives) are used in the manufacture of cosmetics as surfactants or emulsifiers, which cannot simply be removed from cosmetics formulas. Alternatives of equal value are still rare.

In addition, the possible alternatives have much lower yields and much more land is needed to grow other oilseeds such as coconut, soya, rapeseed and sunflower oil than is required for oil palms. For example, 10 hectares of soya beams would have to be planted to obtain the same yield as from one hectare of oil palms. The rigorous exclusion of palm oil and the use of other oils would therefore also cause ecological problems of a disproportionately higher level. The only solution is to purchase the palm oil only from sustainable sources. We require our suppliers to give us palm oil derivatives only from sustainable procurement sources (RSPO).
